Next September will be unlike previous Septembers now that we are growing accustomed to living with the realities of social distancing and remote learning. The Board and staff of St. Fiacc’s are in the early stages of planning for the return to school of our pupils. However even the best plans will change as the medical advice and evidence changes around Covid 19.
Some things we are sure of however are the changes that may have to be made to reduce risk of infection. Changes such as
- Dropping off your children and not remaining on the school grounds for Health & Safety reasons. (A system is being developed by the Board)
- Only calling to the reception on appointment (to protect the Secretary).
- Understanding that the school day may have to be staggered if the class is greater than the recommended size for social distancing.
I do believe these proposals will not affect the teacher-parent relationship or our positive/welcoming school culture as we are merely acting on good advice. They are simple proposals at this stage and will evolve and change as new information emerges. All I can ask for, at this early stage, is your support. I will endeavour to keep everybody informed and updated through July and August on our plans for reopening.
When preparing your child for September I would ask that you send them to school with a ziplock pouch that contains a personal hand towel and a small container of hand sanitizer.
Finally it is not an ideal ending for the 6th class pupils as they complete their eight years at St. Fiacc’s. We have arranged a mass for them on June 24th and I will also set up a Zoom meeting with them during the last week of June to share their memories of Primary School and to acknowledge our award winners. We have also arranged an end of year school mass for June 19th.
