The sun is out shining on us today for European Sports Day in St Fiacc’s. We have been busy with Co-operative games, Olympic Handball, Tag Rugby, GAA, Soccer, Basketball, hulahoop games, obstacle courses, rounders and much more! A huge thanks to Ms Minnock and the 6th class students for organising a great day!
There ws great activity in Graiguecullen GAA grounds on Friday with the 4th and 5th class boys playing three games each in a blitz against Balliabranna. The girls also had a great game with Ballinabranna on the Juvenile pitch with everybody getting good playing time to practice their skills. Over 75 children took part in total and it was a great success and got more children to try out the sport.

We had a beautiful school mass last Wednesday in St Clare’s church. The school choir were fantastic under the guidance from Ms Kavanagh, Ms Davitt and Mr Kelly. A huge thanks to Fr Dunphy and Cathríona for organising and to all our teachers, staff and students who made it such a special and respectful mass.
Well done to our Girls and Boys Teams who had great performances in Cumann na mBunscol this week. The Girls narrowly lost to Ratheniska but played really well scoring more over five goals. The boys had a win against Ballyadams and also played really well. As always both boys and girls teams represented the school so well and played fairly which is always important. Next game is a double header in Abbeyleix on Monday so best of luck in these!

We are delighted to have our i-Pads, chrome books and Bots up and running in St Fiacc’s this year as part of our Digital Learning Framework- we’re looking forward to another great year of enhancing our digital skills!
We had a great first assembly this morning where we practiced songs for the Opening Year Mass on Wednesday 20th September with the help of our wonderful school choir, Ms Kavanagh and Mr Kelly. We also gave out our first Student of the Weeks for this school year- Well done to all the boys and girls who received their certificates today.
It was fantastic to give out the awards for Model Pupil and Student of the Year in St Fiacc’s this week. Well done to all who got an award and also to all of our students who may have narrowly missed out- Wishing you all a very happy and enjoyable summer break!
We had a great send off last night for our Class of 2023 last night. The night started with a lovely service in the church with Fr Dunphy and we sang songs, read poems and speeches and presented awards and certificates in St Fiacc’s Hall. The highlights were presenting Ellen with the Cian Delaney Creative Writing competition and when Dave Cowen presented the Heather Cowen memorial Trophy to Craig Power. Thanks so much to the Parents Association for organisng food and drinks afterwards, Sharon our secretery, Mr Brennan and all the teachers and SNA’s, parents and students for making it a really special evening. Thanks also to our three 6th class teachers- Mr O’Flaherty, Ms Minnock and Mr Keogh for preparing the children so well and for giving them a great year in St Fiacc’s.
A huge congratulations to Ms Ivory and the Green Schools Committee for receiving the 5th Green Schools Flag for Travel for St Fiacc’s. On Wednesday we raised the flag proudly for all to see. The GS Committee made a lovely informative presentations and this was followed by some Junior Infant students showed off their Scooter Skills and Aaron and Darragh got in on the act with their Daredevil Bike skills in front of the entire school. We also had lovely performances from our Banna Ceoil and choir just before the rain came down! Well done to all who helped to make this happen but a special acknowledgement has to go to Ms Ivory for her leadership for the flag!
The Students Council and Playground Monitors were treated to a trip to the cinema by the school as a thank you for all their great work over the year. These pupils have been so good this year and Ms Minnock was delighted to organise a trip for them as a way of saying thanks. A big thanks to Ms Minnock for doing an amazing job coordinating everything this year. Promoting student voice is a big part of St Fiacc’s and we hope that we can encourage more children to get involved in the coming years! Maith sibh!
What a start we’ve had to Active School’s Week- A HUGE thank you to Mr Nolan for coordinating so many activites and faciltators for the entire week to make sure its great fun and full of variety for all the children. Some photos attached here for a snapshot of the activities!
We were joined by past pupils- Kate, Abbie and Hannah who won the Gaynor Cup u14 competition recently. Their coach Alan Smith spoke really well about the importance of playing sport for girls and boys which was really well received by the children. Also Ms Ivory annouced the winners of the Helmet design competition and we had our Student of the Week awards!
Mr O’Flaherty’s 6th class were delighted to be invited by Bishop Denis to join him for a Confirmation Ceremony themed as ‘joining the Christian tent’. There were some fantastic young speakers who spoke about their faith and the importance of God in their lives and the Newbridge Gospel choir performed some lovely songs also.
Well done to our Rounders winners at the Centre of Excellence in Portlaoise on Thursday. The team played very well and won the Trophy final with a great performance from all players- Thanks to Coach Minnock for all her work after school to have them in tip top shape for the finals!
